On Saturday 13th May Willaston Parish Council held it’s first Civic Service at St John’s Methodist Church, Wybunbury Road. The event was hosted by the Chairman, Cllr Maurice Jones and was attended by the Mayor of Cheshire East, Cllr Olivia Hunter, which was the last such occasion of her mayoral year which ended on Wednesday17th May.

The Nantwich and District Branch of the Royal British Legion were also in attendance, who led the Civic Party into the Church. The Service was conducted by Willaston resident, Revd Michael Parrot. A choir made up of Willaston Women’s Institute members gave a rousing performance of Jerusalem and Early One Morning.

Funds were raised during the Service for the British Heart Foundation - the charity of the 2016/17 Rose Queen, Isabella Yates, which will be added to her current total of £1,200. Miss Yates aims to have raised £1,500 by the end of her Rose Queen year in July.

After the Service there was in interesting pictorial display by Willaston and District History Group for all to enjoy during the complimentary refreshments.

Speaking afterwards, a delighted Chairman, Cllr Jones said: “It was an excellent occasion supported by a number of organisations and I look forward to future Civic Services”.
